A key highway route linking Colorado’s Front Range urban corridor to mountain areas northwest of metro Denver, including Rocky Mountain National Park, was reopened Monday after a massive rockslide forced a 12-day closure.Colorado Department of Transportation officials declared Colorado 7 between Lyons and Allenspark open on Twitter Monday morning.Rocks hurtling down to the highway, following a period of heavy rain, blocked the roadway on June 14. CDOT crews have been blasting away boulders as big as shipping containers. As crews worked, they saw that other rocks on a cliff over the highway were loose and extended the closure.UPDATE – 10:45 a.m. (6/25/23) – #CO7 is now OPEN following rock slide cleanup. https://t.co/rYe0uoYAlx— Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) (@ColoradoDOT) June 26, 2023Letters: Witness to a peaceful, legal pro-life demonstration at Denver, Littleton clinics

Palmer Earl’s lush and finely wrought paintings proceed with a matriarchal surrealism that hearkens to the past in order to reimagine the future. Each of her complex and symbol-rich tableaux references visual styles and languages of symbolism across art historical and folkloric traditions, especially the magic, mystery, and creeping misogyny of the late Medieval and Renaissance eras. Influenced by the opulent mannerisms of illuminated manuscripts, but increasingly frustrated at the suppression of women that followed Europe’s conversion to a male-dominated monotheistic religion, Earl looks further back for iconography with the power to inform a radical shift in perspective. Serpents (of course), symbols of fertility and motherhood, icons of incantation and power. What if, she posits in her bright, beguiling paintings, women had been viewed as equals in society this whole time? How very different might things be—and how much more interesting!Palmer Earl: Snake Mother, Acrylic and gold...Tripadvisor’s top 10 experiences around the world and in the U.S.

NAPA . — As sunlight spilled into California’s famed Napa Valley on a summer day, rows of wine grapes reflected the benefits of this winter’s record rainfall.California has more than 960 square miles of vineyards dedicated to the wine industry, perhaps none as iconic as those growing in Napa Valley just north of San Francisco. This year, wine grapes are thriving after record winter rainfall in California, but cool days of spring that have carried into summer are threatening to keep the grapes from ripening. The longer the fruit has to stay on the vine the more exposed it is to possible wildfires in the fall and rain in early winter. The state’s normally bountiful wine grape harvest had been hindered in recent years by a combination of drought and wildfires.California growers reported $600 million worth of grapes lost to smoke damage after the 2020 fire season, the office of U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla said. California’s wine industry generates $170.5 billion annually, according to the Cali...Latest news
