Newsom a little more time and he will have California completely broke. As noted, California went from a $97 billion surplus to a $68 billion deficit.Along the way, Gov. Newson increased spending on things such as free health care for undocumented immigrants. So now taxpayers pay for health care (among other things) for the undocumented while Newsom is more concerned with trying to look good so he can make a run for president. If he were to be elected president, God help this country.Gerald ApostoloDanvilleState’s bullet trainmust be completedRe: “Newsom was originally right about California bullet train” (Page A6, Dec. 12).So what are we to do with the land acquired by the High-Speed Rail Authority and the construction already completed if ...Single-family house in San Jose sells for $3 million

The California exodus isn’t over yet.For the third consecutive year, the Golden State’s population continued to shrink in 2023, even as 42 other states grew this past year, many reversing population declines during the COVID pandemic, according to figures from the U.S. Census Bureau released Tuesday.Overall nationally, the U.S. gained more than 1.6 million people this past year, growing by 0.5% to 334,914,895, the Census reported, with more states seeing population growth in 2023 than in any year since the start of the pandemic. While national population growth remains historically low, the U.S. saw a slight uptick from the 0.4% increase in 2022 and the 0.2% increase in 2021.The Census said population trends are returning to pre-pandemic growth rates as international immigration returns and death rates continue to drop.“Although births declined, this was tempered by the near 9% decrease in deaths,” said Kristie Wilder, a demographer in the Population Division...3 teens should be charged for murder as adults, Alameda County Sheriff says

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens hears the outside criticism about his hustle. More specifically his lack of hustle. He could not care less.“The people that are questioning my effort, they don’t play football,” Pickens told reporters Tuesday. “They do what y’all do.”Pickens has come under scrutiny of late, even from coach Mike Tomlin, for questionable decision-making at times. The latest examples came during Pittsburgh’s 30-13 loss to Indianapolis on Saturday. The second-year player neglected to block downfield on a run by teammate Jaylen Warren in the first quarter, allowing Warren to be tackled short of the goal line. Pickens also jogged downfield following an Indianapolis interception, essentially jogging away from Colts safety Julian Blackmon.Videos of Pickens’ lackluster effort went viral on social media. “Everybody that got opinions are all media, surface guys,” Pickens said. “None of them play football.
