Peter Eichstaedt’s “The Ridge” is a contemporary novel of a fight between local Tierra Amarilla land-rights activists and the government that is eerily reminiscent of that 1967 uprising.Luke Jackman, a Santa Fe reporter, is writing about a group of Hispanic sheepherders when the group suddenly occupies a land-grant-turned-wilderness area run for the benefit of rich elk hunters.  Luke is swept up in the coverage, reporting for his newspaper while at the same time acting as unwilling go-between for the revolutionaries and the police. Avalanche observations after 10 games: Signs of dominance, but issues to improve

The Avalanche has played 10 games and are on pace for 114 points this season.This franchise has surpassed 112 points twice since moving to Colorado, and both years (2001 and 2022) ended with a Stanley Cup celebration.The Avalanche has also lost three of the past four games by a combined 15-0 margin, including a 7-0 spanking Saturday night by one of its chief Cup-contending rivals, the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights.Colorado is off to a great start and can be one of the best teams in the NHL, but is also officially in a weird funk with some work to do. This year’s Warren Miller film is unlike any other

The opening scene in this year’s Warren Miller ski film, “All Time,” begins with grainy black-and-white ski footage and narration intended to emulate the movie-house newsreels of the 1900s. After a brief overview of the roots of skiing, the narrator introduces the man who created the ski film genre more than 70 years ago.“A beach bum named Warren Miller decided windburn was better than sunburn, and noticed that toting a camera around the mountain got him a lot of dates,” the narrator says. “So, in 1949, he made a ski movie. In 1950, he made another ski movie. And another, and another … .”Thus begins a Warren Miller film like no other. This one is intended to celebrate the creator of the series, who sold the company in 1988 and died in 2018, as well as his ongoing legacy. Police in pursuit of 35-foot RV in Los Angeles

Police officers are currently in pursuit of a large RV in Los Angeles.The driver of the RV is reportedly being pursued for domestic violence, according to preliminary information from the Los Angeles Police Department.The pursuit began around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning in West L.A. Officials: Highland Fire in Riverside County completely contained

The Highland Fire has been fully contained a week after the blaze broke out, fire officials said. Reports of the fire first came in on Oct. 30 near Aguanga, located east of Temecula, and quickly exploded due to high Santa Ana wind gusts. No civilians were injured in the blaze, which burned 2,487 acres, but two firefighters sustained injuries, according to CalFire officials. Crews battle the wind-driven Highland Fire in Riverside County on Oct. 30, 2023. Warriors: Will James Wiseman play against his former team?

CLEVELAND — The Warriors face the Detroit Pistons tonight at Little Caesars Arena for a reunion with 2020 first-round draft pick James Wiseman.Odds are Wiseman won’t even touch the court against his former team.Wiseman hasn’t been playing much in Detroit, with just one appearance in seven games, in what’s been his second chance at a spot in the regular rotation. All the reasons the Warriors couldn’t find a fit for him last season now apply to his role with the Pistons.It makes the reunion less awkward for the Warriors.
