A Colorado company that bakes cheese crackers has filed a lawsuit against Meow Wolf, claiming the Denver psychedelic art attraction failed to follow through on a six-figure purchase order for the cheddar snacks.Monzu LLC, headquartered in Longmont and doing business as MECO Cheesy Bits, a maker of homemade cheddar cheese crackers, filed the lawsuit through its attorney Monday in U.S. District Court in Denver. The lawsuit claims that Meow Wolf, by virtue of a “Hellofood purchase order,” agreed to buy $127,500 worth of crackers over a one-year period, from February 2022 through January 2023.Emails were exchanged by the parties and included language that the purchase order was a “binding contract” and that Meow Wolf would buy crackers “throughout 2022-2023,” according to the complaint.Meow Wolf, however, only “ordered and paid less than $30,000” to Monzu for the snack product, the lawsuit said.MECO Cheesy Bits sell online for $26 a case, w...Woman dies after tandem bicycle hits car in Long Beach

A Long Beach woman died Sunday after the tandem bicycle she was riding struck a vehicle, which then fled the scene. The woman, 76-year-old Gaylin Reese, was on a tandem bike with her husband a few minutes before 12:30 p.m. when they came upon heavy traffic near 2nd Street and Marina Drive, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release. The bicycle, which was in the eastbound bike lane on 2nd Street, sideswiped an unknown vehicle and fell over, police said. The vehicle then drove away, though "it is unclear if the driver of that vehicle was aware of the collision," according to the release.Though Reese and her husband were wearing helmets, she was taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to undisclosed injuries. Reese's husband was treated for minor injuries. No information is available about the vehicle that collided with the cyclists or the person behind the wheel, but police said that "speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are not believed to be factors in t...Pink, politics and laughs: Critics review 'Barbie' movie

The reviews are in for the movie about the most famous doll in the world. "Barbie" has received an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is generally better than the average film. The Hollywood Reporter's Lovia Gyarkye said the movie lives up to its early tagline of “If you love Barbie…if you hate Barbie, this movie’s for you.”"The director has successfully etched her signature into and drawn deeper themes out of a rigid framework, but the sacrifices to the story are clear," she wrote. "The muddied politics and flat emotional landing of 'Barbie' are signs that the picture ultimately serves a brand." "The verdict? Never doubt Gerwig," wrote Entertainment Weekly's Devan Coggan. "The Oscar-nominated filmmaker has crafted a fierce, funny, and deeply feminist adventure that dares you to laugh and cry, even if you're made of plastic. It's certainly the only summer blockbuster to pair insightful criticisms of the wage gap with goofy gags about Kens threatening to 'beach' each other off."BBC's Nich...June’s Pizza, Oakland fave that closed in 2021, shows signs of life

June’s Pizza, the tiny Oakland operation that racked up a huge fan base in a short time despite (or perhaps because of) only making a few dozen pizzas a day, looks primed to come back after abruptly closing in 2021.A sign in the window of 2408 Mandela Parkway, in a complex called American Steel Blocks, shows that June’s has applied for a license to sell beer and wine in a “bona fide eating place” (that’s the California ABC’s language). The ABC website lists the license as pending as of June 12.Chef and founder Craig Murli didn’t offer many details when reached by email. “Respectfully, I am not prepared to divulge any information yet,” he said. The address lies in an industrial sector of West Oakland that’s becoming a hot spot for epicureans. Down the block is celebrity pitmaster Matt Horn’s Horn Barbecue and the well-regarded noodle shop Soba Ichi. Next to June’s address is the soon-to-open Brix Factory Brewing, ...Oakland mayor’s handling of salary bump garners goodwill from political doubters

OAKLAND — As anticipated, Mayor Sheng Thao will be getting a raise — but one that’s much smaller than what city officials had initially planned.Late Tuesday night, the City Council voted 6-2 to increase Thao’s salary by about $13,000 — the lowest possible bump that would be required under a longstanding city law — bringing the mayor’s pay to roughly $216,000 annually. The amount matched what the mayor earlier that day had urged the council to approve, amid mounting public backlash toward what was originally on the table: a roughly $75,000 raise, the highest-possible salary hike that she could have received.Thao has faced several crises during her first six months in office, including her firing in February of the police chief and an impending breakup with the Oakland A’s.But her request for a lower raise — and promise to refund anything in excess — won some goodwill from her early political adversaries, including the local c...Edgio: Q4 Earnings Snapshot
