TOKYO (AP) — Razed a century ago by an earthquake and fire and then again by bombing during World War II, Tokyo is constantly recreating itself. These days, multibillion-dollar redevelopment projects are replacing aging downtown neighborhoods of tiny two-story homes and apartments, and in some cases cherished green spaces, with massive mixed office, retail and residential centers designed to help the city burnish its status as a desirable home for global business.Mori Building, one of the biggest players in this effort led mainly by private developers, is putting the finishing touches on two big projects. Toranomon Hills Station Tower, a skyscraper with office space that’s part of the earlier Mori Toranomon Hills project, is opening Friday. Mori JP Tower, a 64-story, 325-meter (1,067-foot) -tall skyscraper that will be Japan’s tallest structure, is part of Mori Building’s 600 billion yen ($6 billion) Azabudai Hills project, which is set to open in November. Three-and-a-half months later no one has been arrested or charged and the investigation appears stalled. The DuPage County Sheriff originally fought to keep all records from that night secret saying releasing them could harm the investigation. After WGN Investigates appealed to the Illinois Attorney General, the sheriff relented releasing early reports from the scene.WHY DID DEPUTIES LEAVE JUST BEFORE SHOOTING?At least two sheriff’s deputies were monitoring the crowd just after midnight; but dispatch records show they ...Woman in critical condition after crashing into Nissan dealership

ST. ANN, Mo. – The St. Ann Police Department reported two scams within a 24-hour period this week that resulted in victims losing thousands of dollars. One of the targets was a business located in St. Ann. The other victim was a resident.“It is very heartbreaking because you’re talking about thousands of dollars,” Det. Lt. Monica Ruelas, St. Ann Police Department, said. She said in some cases, fraudsters have pretended to be a corporate leader with a business and ordered workers to convert cash to Bitcoin. Once the conversion is completed, the money is gone.Ruelas said the most recent case involved a caller pretending to be a mail service courier. They conned a St. Ann business out of thousands of dollars. In a separate case involving a St. Ann resident, the victim received a text message followed by a phone call asking to set up an investment fund. Police say never click on a link from a text or email unless you are certain who sent the message. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A warehouse in west St. Louis County is where police departments from across the country send confiscated firearms to be destroyed. Each gun is destroyed within seconds in a 6,000-pound machine called the Pulverizer.“We get everything from an agency saying, ‘Hey, we have one gun that we need to destroy,’ to a client in Michigan—Michigan State Police—which requires thousands of guns to be destroyed a month,” Scott Reed, president of GunBusters, said.Police departments meticulously track each seized gun, like a list we found filed with the courts by Hazelwood Police. It lists the type of weapon and the reason for the seizure. It may be a criminal case or a mental health crisis.“A lot of the crime we see, there’s mental health aspects involved in that,” Lt. Blake Carrigan, St. Ann Police Department, said.Carrigan says his department employs a mental health coordinator for that reason. He remembers a case that never made the news because police stopped a potential...First-of-its-kind tech in Missouri debuts at Ameristar St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The name of the newest store inside Ameristar St. Charles pretty much sums it up. Roll In & Out uses Amazon technology for an effortless, checkout-free experience.“Amazon approached our company about a year ago to see if we might be interested in this technology for some retail opportunities, and we thought our St. Charles property here at Ameristar would be a good place to try this out,” Ward Shaw, Ameristar’s senior vice president and general manager, said.Check out these sensors hanging from the ceiling of the store. It’s Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology, and it can accurately determine who took what in any retail environment. There’s a couple of ways to enter the store.“You can literally just scan your card and walk in. What the Amazon technology does is it kind of tracks your blob through the store. You can take things off the shelf, put them back,” Shaw said. “I’ve tested myself by doing a couple of things at once and putting them back, then just walk...Latest news
