Red Wings thump Bruins, 5-2 Before the annual Black Friday game, the Bruins were aligned with the Detroit Red Wings to be first-round playoff opponents. There is a lot of time between now and April, of course. But as of the moment, that looks like a nightmare of matchup for the locals. The B’s suffered their second regulation loss of the season and the Wings own both of them. On Friday at the Garden, the B’s started poorly and couldn’t get climb out of the hole they created for themselves, losing 5-2.The B’s went into the third down 3-1 but got one back at 4:12. Mason Lohrei fired a shot wide that took a fortuitous bounce out to Danton Heinen in front and he roofed it past Ville Husso. But in keeping with how the day was going for the B’s, the Wings got it back 56 seconds later. Brandon Carlo was called for hooking and, for the second time, the Wings scored almost immediately off a faceoff win. This time Dylan Larkin finished it off to make it 4-2.Jim Montgomery pulled Jeremy Swayman...

You’ll find the full recipe here. But in a nutshell, you slather brioche or Francese rolls with a honey mustard-mayo (stir together 3 tablespoons honey mustard and 1 tablespoon mayonnaise), add a few leaves of romaine lettuce to prevent bread sogginess, then layer on roasted red peppers, thinly sliced red onion, turkey, Brie, tomato and English cucumber.Turkey Croque Monsieur: Francis Hogan (Pleasanton’s Sabio on Main, San Francisco’s Bluestem Brasserie) g...

A shark barrier along Cape Cod was reportedly successful in deterring great white sharks Could shark barriers be coming to Cape Cod beaches in the future? It could be a safety option for local communities down the road after researchers recently found that their shark barrier successfully deterred great white sharks along the Cape. The nonprofit O’Seas Conservation Foundation tested its shark barrier technology, “The Exclusion Barrier,” this fall off of Chatham’s Monomoy Island — a hotbed for shark activity along the Cape. The 100-foot long physical barrier with electromagnetism “successfully manipulated the sharks’ swim patterns” in the Shark Cove area, according to Craig O’Connell, the executive director of O’Seas Conservation Foundation.“Of the more than a dozen sharks, not a single one swam through the barrier,” O’Connell told the Herald. “We were able to show how this is a very reliable technology, and that this technology shows great promise for the future.”He described the barr...

How long does leftover Thanksgiving turkey last? Lisa M. Krieger | Bay Area News GroupSmell and slime are sure signs of a bird that’s gone bad.But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration offers more helpful advice for how long to keep your Thanksgiving leftovers. You have two to three days to safely eat or freeze your turkey, it says. The same goes for giblets.Three to four days is also a good guideline for soups and vegetable stews, especially if they contain meat. Was your Thanksgiving less traditional? Cooked beef, veal, lamb and pork should be eaten more quickly — within two to three days, the FDA says. While uncooked fish only stays fresh for two days, cooked fish can last three to four days. (If fish is smoked, it’s good for two weeks.)And that opened package of hot dogs will last a week. If unopened, it’s still safe at two weeks. The same time limits apply to luncheon meats.Sausage, if raw, is only safe for a day or two. Smoked links are healthy for a week.If you freeze your food — at 0 degrees Fahrenheit — it will last indefini...
