(NEXSTAR) — Does the Texas summer have you in need of an escape? If you can't bear the thought of parting with the Lone Star State, there are still a few options for cities and towns that have slightly milder summers. It might not surprise you that Texas doesn't log many cities that are all that cool. The misery index is a crude but effective way to measure the health of the economy. You add up the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. If you’re a president running for re-election, you want that number to be as low as possible. When Ronald Reagan won reelection, it was about 11.4; when George W. Bush did so it was 9; for Barack Obama it was 9.5; and today, as Joe Biden runs for reelection, it’s only 7.7.Biden should be cruising to an easy reelection victory. And that misery index number doesn’t even begin to capture the strength of the U.S. economy right now. There are a zillion positive indicators right now, as the folks in the administration will be quick to tell you. The economy has created 13 million jobs since Biden’s Inauguration Day. According to The Conference Board, a business research firm, Americans’ job satisfaction is at its highest level in 36 years. Amy LindgrenSummer is the season we associate with vacations, free time, staying outside late watching fireflies. In that version, summer is the season for dreaming. Or dreamin’ if you don’t mind losing a letter in exchange for artistic license. And what better time to dream than Independence Day, the holiday commemorating the achievement of visionaries who helped found the country?America has long been called a nation of dreamers. To achieve the American Dream has meant meeting one’s goals and attaining success, however each person defines it.These days, a more critical eye is being cast on that concept, and rightfully so. If we keep raising the ladder so that the lowest rung is out of reach, are all Americans really able to achieve their dreams? Is the concept even meaningful to individuals who face unreasonable obstacles to daily living? This point should be contemplated, taught, discussed and argued often. I still believe deeply in the American Dream, but I’m not going to blindly ...A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE FOR CENTRAL ASIA
