QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — A strong earthquake shook southern Ecuador and northern Peru on Saturday, killing at least 15 people, trapping others under rubble, and sending rescue teams out into streets littered with debris and fallen power lines.The U.S. Geological Survey reported an earthquake with a magnitude of about 6.8 that was centered just off the Pacific Coast, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Guayaquil, Ecuador’s second-largest city. One of the victims died in Peru, while 14 others died in Ecuador, where authorities also reported that at least 126 people were injured.Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso told reporters the earthquake had “without a doubt … generated alarm in the population.” Lasso’s office in a statement said 12 of the victims died in the coastal state of El Oro and two in the highlands state of Azuay. Firefighters battled a fast-moving blaze that raced through a multi-family home in Somerville on Saturday.As he watched his home on Walker Street go up in flames, one of the tenants told 7NEWS, “I’m freaked out, my whole life is in that apartment … I’m glad everybody got out.”Emergency crews could be seen giving oxygen to a cat that was pulled from the building. The Miami Dolphins are bringing in a new pass rusher in former Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Malik Reed, his agent announced and a source confirmed to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.Reed is reunited with new Dolphins defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in Miami. Reed played his first three NFL seasons in Denver, coinciding with Fangio’s head coaching tenure with the Broncos. The Toronto St. Patrick’s Parade is set to take over a portion of the downtown core on Sunday, culminating a weekend celebration of all things Irish.The parade is set to begin at noon at the corner of St. George and Bloor Street West and will proceed east before heading down Yonge Street then along Queen Street, ending at Nathan Phillips Square about an hour and a half later. MONTREAL — Fire officials now say at least seven people are missing after a blaze destroyed a building in Montreal’s historic district Thursday.Investigators initially said one person was believed to be missing in the fire that also injured another nine people.“The information confirmed in the last few hours, from various sources, allows us to believe that there may be victims inside the debris,” Montreal fire operations chief Martin Guilbault said Saturday.
