PARIS — “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”: The lofty ideals to which France has long aspired are embossed on coins and carved above school doors across the land. Yet they are the polar opposite of what some French people who are Black or brown saw in a shocking video of a police officer shooting and killing a 17-year-old delivery driver of north African descent during a traffic stop. That kid, some said to themselves, could have been me — or my children, or my friends. Within hours, the first fires of anger and revenge were lighting up the night skies of Nanterre, the Paris suburb where the teenager, Nahel, was declared dead at 9:15 a.m. last Tuesday. His left arm and chest had been pierced from left to right by a single shot fired before the yellow Mercedes he was driving then slammed into barriers on Nelson Mandela Square. From the town on the fringe of the French capital’s high-rise business district, with its disadvantaged housing projects, glaring wealth gaps, and melti...Trinity Rodman, daughter of Dennis Rodman, could be poised for a breakout in her World Cup debut for the U.S.

She’s dealt with that in various forms throughout her short career, and now she’s ready for this next challenge.“I’m so honored, proud, and just excited for this opportunity,” she said. “At this age, there’s so much time to accomplish things, but to experience it this early has been so amazing, and I’m just so excited.”The daughter of basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, Trinity has bec...1 dead, 3 hurt after plane goes down in Riverside County

Brandin Podziemski’s first action in Warriors threads was a mixed bag.The Golden State Warriors’ 19th overall pick showed flashes of promise as a decision-maker and scrappy guard in the Summer League opener against the Sacramento Kings, a 100-94 loss on Monday night in the first of two California Classic games at Golden 1 Center.Podziemski, 20, passed on some open shots initially, scoring four points through the first three quarters. But he settled into a 12 point with some late scoring, including a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.“The next step with him is we got to find ways as a staff to put him in position so he can be more of a scorer, looking to score,” Summer League head coach Jacob Rubin said. “He’s been good for us getting in the paint and facilitating, we just got to find a way for the ball to find him a little bit more.”What stood out was Podziemski’s playmaking out of the pick-and-roll. NEW YORK (AP) — The mere mention of Aaron Hicks’ name at Yankee Stadium is drawing boos, a reaction the former Yankees outfielder expected on his return to the Bronx.Booed in pregame introductions, jeered during a brief tribute video Monday night and booed before each at-bat, the reception for the now-Orioles outfielder is everything Hicks thought it could be. There were even a few more boos Tuesday, when Hicks homered in his second game back in New York after the Yankees released him on May 26, ending his eight-year, injury-filled tenure with the team.“I definitely enjoyed my time here,” Hicks said “I enjoyed being a Yankee. I enjoyed the team and it’s just kind of one of those things, a little disappointing, but at the same time it’s like they’re going to do what they’re going to do and I can’t control that.”Hicks hit a 372-foot drive off New York’s Clarke Schmidt a few rows deep into the right-field seats for his fifth homer since joining the Orioles on May 30, after Cedric...Nola beats former teammate Eflin as the Phillies beat AL-leading Rays 3-1 for 10th straight road win
