A 48-year-old man died in the El Paso County jail after the facility’s medical staff ignored his deteriorating health and obvious extreme pain for hours, according to a federal civil rights lawsuit filed by the man’s sister Monday.Cristo Canett, 48, died in the jail on April 26, 2022, after he suffered a perforated duodenal ulcer — an ulcer that created a hole in the lining of his small intestine, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Such ulcers allow intestinal fluids to leak into a person’s abdominal cavity, which can cause infection, sepsis and death, the complaint states. It’s a treatable condition, but jail medical staff refused to give Canett any help beyond mild painkillers even as he moaned in pain, could not walk and complained about nausea and abdominal pain for hours, the complaint alleges. The lawsuit names as defendants the jail’s medical provider, Wellpath, as well as El Paso County She...Three Colorado cities make top 25 in “Best Places to Live in 2023-2024”

Ron DeSantis said Tuesday.“We stand by ready to help with that because I think what you are seeing is going to be really, really bad, potentially very shortly,” DeSantis said during a news conference in Broward County. The governor’s decision came two weeks after President Biden ordered 1,500 active troops to the border for 90 days as his administration anticipates a surge of migrants following the expiration of Title 42, a COVID-19 pandemic law that restricted entry to the United States. The administration also established new restrictions on who qualifies for asylum.Although the president predicted a huge surge of migrants trying to cross the border, so far that largely hasn’t happened, according to reports from the scene. The governorR...Taco Bell wants end to 'Taco Tuesday' trademark

Taco Bell says it wants to "liberate" the phrase "Taco Tuesday," which, believe it or not, has been trademarked by a smaller taco chain for more than 30 years.Taco Bell filed a petition Tuesday -- yes, Taco Tuesday -- with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office seeking an end to the trademark, arguing that "Taco Tuesday" is in common usage and should be available to all."Taco Bell believes 'Taco Tuesday' should belong to all who make, sell, eat and celebrate tacos," the chain said in a statement."Taco Bell seeks no damages or trademark rights in 'Taco Tuesday,'" it said. "It simply seeks common sense for usage of a common term."Trademark lawyers say Taco Bell might have a strong case. There's a carve-out in trademark law that allows for trademarks to be canceled if the trademarked word or phrase enters common usage. In this case, a smaller taco chain called Taco John's trademarked "Taco Tuesday" 34 years ago, meaning no one else can use the phrase for commercial or marketing purposes."T...IRS will test a free e-filing system next year
