MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters in Southern California were battling three brush fires that started Friday afternoon amid a blistering heat wave.The fires were within 40 miles of each other in mostly rural areas across Riverside County.Nearly 1,000 homes were under evacuation orders at one point, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or property loss, according to officials from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.Two of the fires — Reche and Highland — had stopped spreading by Friday evening. JERUSALEM (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was rushed on Saturday to a hospital after feeling dizzy, his office said, adding that it appeared the veteran Israeli leader was suffering from dehydration.Netanyahu, 73, remained at Israel’s Sheba Hospital, where he continued to undergo medical tests, his office said.In a joint statement with the hospital, his office said Netanyahu had visited the Sea of Galilee, a popular vacation spot in northern Israel, on Friday. Fire causes explosions at Louisiana chemical plant; residents warned to stay indoors for hours

(AP) — A fire at a Louisiana chemical plant triggered explosions that shook homes several miles away and sent flames and smoke billowing into the air, prompting emergency officials to urge a few hundred nearby residents to shelter indoors for several hours and to turn off their air conditioners.Flames erupted late Friday at Dow Chemical’s plant on the Mississippi River near Plaquemine, south of Baton Rouge. Iberville Parish officials told The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate that the fire started in an area of the plant that handles ethylene oxide, a flammable and toxic chemical.
