By DAVE SKRETTA and STEVE REED (AP Sports Writer)AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The second round of the Masters resumed at Augusta National on Saturday, and there was little evidence that three towering pine trees had fallen near patrons a day earlier during storms that resulted in the suspension of play.Nobody was hurt by the fallen pines, though they crushed several chairs where patrons had been sitting. Three separate 10-by-10 foot areas near the 16th green and 17th tee were roped off Saturday with some wood chips left from where workers had quickly cut them up. Two of the areas were covered with green gravel and another with pine straw.Sergio Garcia teed off at the 17th as he finished his second round Saturday, and the 2017 champion strained his head over patrons as he began walking toward his shot to see where the trees once stood. Several workers around the area were still discussing what happened, and one called it “a miracle” that no one was injured or killed.“I...Smokin’ CBD Hemp Strains — What Are The Best CBD Hemp Hybrids?

When the San Jose City Council recently approved the annexation of the Burbank Theater, several possibilities suddenly opened up for the geographic landmark on Bascom Avenue. Of course, one possible fate is that it could be torn down for an entirely new development. That’s why the Preservation Action Council has launched a petition drive to encourage the city to designate the Art Moderne theater, originally built in 1949, a city historical landmark. You can get more information and add your name to the petition at www.preservation.org/burbank.“The theater is a litmus test on what gives a city character,” PAC-SJ Executive Director Ben Leech said. “There’s going to be someone who says, ‘That ugly thing, there’s nothing historic about it. Tear it down.’ But I happen to think it’s buildings like this that make a place interesting, even when they’re vacant.”The front entrance to Burbank Theater, built in 1949 and photograph...Palo Alto: Parking garage vandalism under investigation as hate crime

Police said there was no description of a suspect, and no arrests had been made.City staff and police have had to respond to multiple episodes of graffiti at other locations in recent years, including at a church office last October, a park playground last June, and two middle-school bathrooms last May.Separate incidents of vandalism included a Black Liv...Who gets to police the police? In Richmond, it’s a loaded question

RICHMOND — Who should be allowed to police the police?Political divisions behind that question have often left Richmond’s Community Police Review Commission (CPRC) fighting over appointments and struggling to fulfill its mission of investigating local police officers when they are accused of use-of-force abuses, racism, sexual harassment or assault. The latest controversy arose last month, when the Richmond City Council appointed Rachel Lorber, a public defender for Contra Costa County, to an open seat on the CPRC.While Lorber’s supporters argue that her legal experience will bring valuable insight into policing, some residents — including Ben Therriault, president of the Richmond Police Officers Association, and current CPRC Commissioner Oscar Garcia — argue that her appointment could pose a conflict of interest, potentially leading to leaks of confidential information and subsequent lawsuits against Richmond. The Richmond City Council appointed Rachel Lorber, a public defender...San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan on firing of police union exec
