CPD: 2 critical after shooting outside funeral home

CHICAGO — Two people were critically wounded in a drive-by shooting outside of a funeral home Wednesday morning on the South Side.The shooting happened just before 11 a.m. outside Leak and Sons Funeral Home, located at 7838 S. Cottage Grove Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.Two men, ages 38 and 43, were standing near a sidewalk when a gunman in a vehicle driving by opened fire. The 38-year-old was struck in the face, head and neck. He was transported to University of Chicago in critical condition.The 43-year-old was shot in the jaw and was transported to University of Chicago in critical condition.Authorities said another person was transported to St. Bernard Hospital with a leg injury sustained while moving through a crowd when the shooting occurred. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A lawyer for a prominent Memphis couple with a longstanding relationship to former NFL player Michael Oher says that they want to end a conservatorship that he’s challenging in court.Lawyer Randall Fishman told reporters on Wednesday that his clients Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy intend to enter into a consent order to end the conservatorship. LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Las Vegas police have accused a man of killing his girlfriend Tuesday in the southeast valley, according to a release. On Aug. 14 at around 2:30 p.m., officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 1600 block of Golden Arrow Drive after a report of a possible injured person. When officers arrived, they found a woman who was dead and a man, identified as James Gina III, 50. Homicide detectives were able to identify Gina as the victim’s boyfriend and that he was the suspect in this case.James Gina III. (WMBD) – The man who threw a Molotov cocktail into an Illinois Planned Parenthood location in January has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.Tyler Massengill, 32, wearing an orange jumpsuit from the Peoria County Jail, showed no emotion as the sentence was read aloud in court on Tuesday. He stood before the judge and apologized, saying he never meant to hurt anyone."I feel for the people who have lost their jobs. I'm not trying to play like I am victim at this. AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- As Tona Naranjo raised a faint candle toward the Governor's Mansion, she remembered the light of her life now extinguished.Gathered in prayerful protest on the steps of the mansion on Friday night, she mourned with other families who have lost loved ones inside the criminal justice system. Her son, Jon Anthony Southwards, died at 36 years old on June 28 inside the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Estelle Unit. He was found unresponsive in his cell and later pronounced dead. His cause of death is still unknown, pending autopsy results from a medical examiner.Naranjo is seeking answers from TDCJ regarding the circumstances of her son's sudden death. "The drought and water restrictions have greatly affected my business. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A man found dead in Lady Bird Lake in March may have fallen or entered the water or had a "natural event" near the water, according to a medical examiner's report obtained by KXAN.Police and first responders were called to 1100 W. Riverside Drive on the morning of March 5. Clifton Axtell, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. Austin Police find body in Lady Bird Lake It's unclear how the man entered the water "as it was an unwitnessed event," the report stated."Unfortunately, there are often no specific findings at autopsy to confirm drowning as the cause of death," the report said, adding it is "often dependent on case circumstances."
