AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is threatening retribution for the House Republicans who went against him on impeachment, in a post-acquittal media blitz on a variety of conservative talk shows. Speaking with Dallas radio host Mark Davis, Paxton said he would “absolutely” support and fund primary challengers, emphasizing he will spend "a lot of time" in Beaumont, Kerrville and Collin County. Beaumont is House Speaker Dade Phelan's hometown and Kerrville is a town in Rep. Andrew Murr's district — Murr chaired the House impeachment managers and also chairs the House General Investigating Committee, which started the impeachment process. Collin County is where Paxton resides and has built his political career, but is also home to several House Republicans who voted against him.Paxton had a specific message for one of his former allies, Rep. Jeff Leach — who gave an emotional speech during closing arguments, asking senators to also consider making the same "di...Austin to require composting at apartment complexes, condos

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin City Council voted on Thursday to approve a rule to require multifamily residential properties (any building with five or more dwelling units) to provide disposal for compostable materials, such as food waste, starting in October 2024.Austin Resource Recovery, the city department behind the rule, calls it an important step towards a goal to reduce solid waste by 2040. “More than half of Austinites live in multifamily communities but most don’t have access to composting collection services,” said Richard McHale, Austin Resource Recovery director, in a press release. “Keeping food scraps and other organic material out of the landfill is important to make the most out of the planet’s finite resources and to help Austin reach its zero waste goal.” 2019: City of Austin expands curbside compost program to over 50K homes The rule will affect "apartments, condos, dorms, assisted living facilities and nursing homes," according to the release. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- City government is currently reviewing the Austin Police Oversight Act, which voters passed in May, to see which provisions can be enacted without violating state law.A ruling from the Attorney General's Office on a public information request for the contents of an officer's personnel file came down during Thursday's council meeting, and the mayor and council discussed it in executive session. The ruling allowed for this information, which previously could not be released under state law, to be released in the specific case at hand. "More clarity needs to be obtained," said Mayor Kirk Watson. "I anticipate council will bring back another resolution very soon once we have clarity on that AG opinion that will allow the city to do more than what was originally anticipated."The root of this back and forth goes to the battle at the ballot box between two petitions titled "Austin Police Oversight Act."One was spearheaded by the advocacy group Equity Action. They are the defending Pioneer Football League champions and the preseason favorites to win it again, but the St. Thomas Tommies will be limping into their conference opener against Morehead State on Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Stadium — both physically and metaphorically. On the heels of losses to South Dakota and Harvard by a combined score of 69-13, the Tommies will be without six starters in their first-ever meeting with the Eagles.“We put together a nonconference schedule that would test us,” head coach Glenn Caruso said. “It absolutely has. Good teams — strong, fast, big, physical. It certainly took its toll on us physically. We’re down five starters and another player who rotated in (with the starters) from Week 1.”Despite the two lopsided losses, Caruso has no regrets about scheduling either team, or about scheduling Northern Iowa in 2021 and Southern Utah last season, two other teams that beat the Tommies soundly.“Those are foundational moments,” Caruso said. “Even though it d...‘Angry’ Loons need to channel emotion from L.A. loss into St. Louis match

“A lot of angry people” were inside the Loons’ dressing room after they gave up a two-goal lead in a 4-3 defeat to the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday.“It’s a natural thing,” manager Adrian Heath said Friday. “At times, I don’t think we have enough of it. People are not happy when you put so much effort into getting into a situation where the game is there to see out, and we don’t do it. We’ve done it too many times this year.”Minnesota United will have to channel that fresh emotion in a quick turnaround to play St. Louis City at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Allianz Field.“Until you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of the situation, then it won’t change,” Heath said. The Loons (9-10-10, 37 points) fell out of the nine-team Western Conference playoff field with the meltdown loss at L.A., while St. Louis (15-10-5, 50 points) sits in first place and just clinched an MLS Cup Playoffs spot on Wednesday.Heath said a no-holds-barred locker room often has a few louder players, and the tea...Double H Ranch breaks ground on a bright future
