BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — When right-wing populist Javier Milei became Argentina’s president-elect, he dedicated his victory to “The boss,” the nickname he uses for his enigmatic sister, Karina Milei. She is the most important of a trio of influential women surrounding the fiery outsider who shot to the presidency of South America’s second-largest economy.Karina Milei, who barely speaks in public, was tasked with introducing her brother Sunday night after he won a presidential runoff election with 55.7% of the vote, the highest percentage in a general election since the return of democracy in 1983.“Without her, none of this would have been possible,” Milei told the crowd that chanted “Olé, olé, boss, boss.”Milei enjoyed a meteoric rise to the presidency, making the leap from television commentator to lawmaker two years ago. Lacking a group of well-known political advisers, he has surrounded himself with a group of women who are set to be key players in his administration....Lake Elmo city administrator fired at end of council meeting; a member resigns in protest

(KRON) -- It's long been known that people who smoke tobacco are at a higher risk of having heart problems. Now, a team of researchers at UCSF have found that marijuana products also pose the same risk. What's particularly interesting is that burning any plant can release toxic chemicals, but apparently eating THC products can be risky too. Since last summer, UCSF cardiovascular researchers have studied 44 people to learn the effects that marijuana has on their blood vessels and hearts. The control group included healthy adults between 18 and 50 years old. Other groups include chronic tobacco smokers, those who smoke weed at least three times a week, people who only take THC edibles and people who aren't exposed to any of these. "We've been doing a lot of research in rats that's indicated that marijuana smoke has similar cardiovascular harmful effects as tobacco smoke," said Dr. Matt Springer, UCSF cardiovascular researcher. "Now we actually see for the first time that the smoke is h...Sunol school board members face recall over flag ban

SUNOL, Calif. (KRON) – The small, East Bay town of Sunol has attracted a lot of attention for the school district’s decision to limit the types of flags that can be flown on campus. In response, a recall effort has been launched against two school board members.Back in September, two of three members of the Sunol Glen Unified School District board voted to only allow the American flag and the California flag to be flown over the district’s one school. The decision prevents the school from flying a Pride flag.A board meeting became very heated, and the two board members, Linda Hurley and Ryan Jergensen, have received a lot of blowback for that decision. Study reveals THC smoke can have similar effects of tobacco This past Saturday, a group called “United for Sunol Glen” launched an effort to recall Hurley and Jergensen. On their website, they claim that the pair are “obstructing civil discourse by silencing opposing voices” and that they need to be recalled in order to ...NFL upholds four-game suspension of Broncos safety Kareem Jackson, costing him $558K in lost wages

DENVER (AP) — This time, Kareem Jackson caught no breaks from the NFL, which denied his appeal of his four-game suspension for a high hit on Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs that came on his third play back from his first suspension.Hearing officer Derrick Brooks, jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA, upheld the punishment handed down a day earlier. Brooks also heard Jackson’s last appeal, for an illegal hit on a Green Bay tight end last month, and cut that four-game suspension in half. Jackson will miss games against the Browns, Texans, Chargers and Lions, the last three on the road, before he’s allowed to return against New England on Christmas Eve.His suspension comes at a critical time for the Broncos (5-5), who own the league’s longest active winning streak at four games as they try to become just the fourth team to reach the playoffs after starting 1-5.Complicating matters is the ankle injury suffered by his fill-in, PJ Locke, that sidelined him S...Cardinals sign free-agent starting pitchers Kyle Gibson and Lance Lynn to 1-year contracts

The busiest days are still to come

The late crush of holiday travelers is picking up steam, with about 2.7 million people expected to board flights on Wednesday and millions more planning to drive to Thanksgiving celebrations.Airline officials say they are confident that they can avoid the kind of massive disruptions that have marred past holiday seasons, such as the meltdown at Southwest Airlines over last Christmas.Airlines have added tens of thousands of employees in the last couple years, and Southwest says it has bought more winter equipment to keep planes moving even during sub-freezing temperatures.Security lines at airports could be long because of the crowds. Delta Air Lines is telling passengers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their flight if they are traveling within the United States, three hours early if they’re flying overseas — and maybe earlier on Sunday and Monday. The holiday will also test the Federal Aviation Administration, which faces shortages of air traffic controllers ...Latest news
