NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has led thousands of protesters in a third round of anti-government demonstrations on Thursday as the government warned that no more violent protests would be tolerated. The opposition is blaming President William Ruto for the rising cost of living and alleges he illegally manipulated his election in last year’s polls, although the Supreme Court has upheld the validity of the election results. Odinga says the protests will only stop after the government lowers the cost of basic food items and allows access to the 2022 election results from the electoral commission’s main computers.Ruto, who on Thursday arrived back in the country from a four-day trip in Belgium and Germany, has remained adamant that the ongoing protests are illegal.Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki, who is in charge of the police, on Wednesday said no more violent protests would be tolerated, stating “we must halt the descent.”U.S Senator Chris Coons ...LGBTQ summit calls on Japan to enact anti-discrimination law

BERLIN — King Charles III hailed Germany’s “courageous” move to give military support to Ukraine as he talked up British-German ties in a historic address to the Bundestag Thursday.Charles, on his first overseas trip as U.K. monarch, told assembled lawmakers that Germany and the U.K. had “taken an important leadership role” in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. And he said Berlin had “responded decisively and taken decisions that would have been easily unimaginable in the past,” in a likely nod to the country’s Zeitenwende, or major U-turn, on its post-World War II defense policy.“Germany’s decision to provide military support to Ukraine … is exceedingly courageous, important and welcome,” he said, in a speech that mixed German and English.Charles’ visit is being seen as part of a wider reset of British foreign policy post Brexit. But he’ll wind up staying in space for over a year — breaking the record for the longest mission conducted by a US astronaut.Rubio will return to Earth aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft no earlier than September 27, NASA officials said Wednesday, meaning he will have logged a total of at least 371 days in orbit. That tour of duty will beat the previous record of 355 days set by US astronaut Mark Vande Hei in 2022.Rubio’s return trip had been slated for this spring. But the spacecraft that carried Rubio and two Russian colleagues — cosmonauts Sergey Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin — sprang a coolant leak in December. Officials at Roscosmos, Russia’s space agency, later deemed the spacecraft was not safe enough to carry the astronauts back home.Instead, the Soyuz MS-22 capsule returned to Earth witho...4 things to watch for as the Chicago White Sox begin the 2023 season, including fresh faces on the roster
