LEANDER, Texas (Sept. 5, 2023) — Plans to build a new development in Leander will soon take a major step forward, a real estate company said Tuesday.St. John Properties said it plans to break ground in early spring 2024 on a 120,000-square-foot office building. The Maryland-based company said it would be the city's "first Class ‘A’ office building" and the first commercial component of the 116-acre urban, mixed-use Northline development 30 miles north of Austin. That is east of US Highway 183, west of US Highway 183-A and south of San Gabriel Parkway. According to Building Owners and Managers Association International, Class A buildings are defined as "most prestigious buildings competing for premier office users with rents above average for the area. Buildings have high quality standard finishes, state of the art systems, exceptional accessibility and a definite market presence."St. John Properties said the four-story building is "designed to earn LEED certification" and would offe...98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: Is It Okay to Wear Pajamas to A Free Hotel Breakfast?

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Darrin and it's about wearing pajamas in public places. Here's his email: Get the latest news, weather, sports and more delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jamie. I recently was on a business trip staying in a hotel that gave me a free breakfast. I got up, got dressed, and went down to breakfast and was truly shocked to see at least three people…adults…still in their pajamas eating breakfast IN A PUBLIC HOTEL!! I understood the few kids I saw in their jammies because they were young, and it was probably easier for the parents. But grown adults….put on some clothes people. A hotel lobby isn't your home kitchen. When I came home and told my wife, she told me I was being too hard on people, but I don't think so. I don't need to see your pajamas at my hotel. What do you think? Is it okay to eat breakfast at a hotel in a public room with your pajamas still on? Help me convince my wife it's wrong.DarrinHere's my take. I wo...Back to school picture tips from Broadalbin-Perth

Dear Amy: A year ago, my mother-in-law’s live-in companion died by suicide. He was 88 and had just gotten a terminal diagnosis. My husband took a three-month leave of absence from his job and went to get his mother moved out of her companion’s house and into her nearby home. (The location is five states away.)Her house is in an upscale neighborhood and is probably worth a substantial amount. My husband had discussed either selling the house and having her move closer to us or getting an assisted-living apartment. (She does need assistance.)I have two grown children and he has three from a previous marriage. We also have grandchildren. They all live close to our town.I cannot retire for at least five more years.Well, my husband got a job in his mother’s town and never left!He remodeled the second bathroom of his mother’s home in the style I wanted our bathroom done. Published Fri, 01 Nov 2024 12:26:44 GMT
Nationally, we just observed the 60th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington. In California, there wasn’t a peep about the 60th anniversary of a historic civil rights triumph in this state. That’s understandable. There are probably few people still around who know much about the Rumford Fair Housing Act, which produced arguably the biggest, bitterest brawl ever in California’s Capitol.Looking back, it’s almost inconceivable what the fight was about. It was over whether it should be legally permissible — never mind morally right — for homeowners and landlords to continue discriminating because of skin color in the sale and rental of housing.Spurred by Democratic Gov. Pat Brown, the Democratic-controlled Legislature voted after much anguish to ban racial discrimination in housing. The public backlash was swift. Californians voted by nearly 2 to 1 the next year to legalize discrimination again. But the state and U.S. Supreme courts ultimately ru...Subdivide or expand? The player we call Secondhand Rose played in a penny game at my club yesterday. When the lesson about “second hand low” on defense was being taught, Rose was absent — maybe out on a date with Jiggs the plumber.Rose was today’s West and led the jack of spades against 3NT. (North quite properly suppressed his club suit to raise to the nine-trick notrump game.) Declarer put up dummy’s king, and East took the ace and returned a spade. South played low and won the third spade. At the fourth trick, declarer led a club — and Secondhand Rose … with the jack!HIGH CLUBSDeclarer was stuck. If he played low from dummy to keep communication, Rose would cash two spades for down one. When instead declarer took dummy’s three high clubs, he also got two hearts and two diamonds, but only eight tricks in all.South will make 3NT if Rose plays “second hand low” on the first club. South will play the nine from dummy, win East’s heart return...DC Central Kitchen gets a ‘new start’ and new digs in Buzzard Point
